Grace Foley, a native New Yorker, is in the process of obtaining her B.S. in Dance Performance and Choreography with a minor in Arts Administration from Skidmore College. At Skidmore, Grace has had the opportunity to work with and perform works by Robert Battle, Larry Keigwin, Jason Ohlberg, and Erika Pujič. She has received additional training from Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, and the New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Dance, under the direction of Carolyn Adams, and has had the chance to learn and perform works by Kyle Abraham, Aszure Barton, Robert Battle, FLOCK (Florian Lochner & Alice Klock), Johan Inger, Erika Pujič, and Paul Taylor.

Beyond her experience as an artist, Grace has done administrative and social media work for the Peter Foley Music Project, a certified 501c(3) non-profit organization, and was a member of the summer staff at American Ballet Theatre New York, where she supervised young dancers and assisted faculty. Outside of the studio, Grace loves going hiking, practicing yoga, good cups of coffee, cooking, reading, and browsing in bookstores. Grace will be working with Adam Barruch, creating a choreographed solo that she will perform in the Skidmore College Senior Coda Dance Concert as a culmination of her degree in dance.

As a mover, I am interested in discovering the space where discipline and surrender overlap, finding a state of flow that is intentional, yet inquisitive. I long for moments of suspension and release, interspersed with articulate moments of specificity. My curiosity is what drives my dancing and I am intrigued by the dancing body and its infinite possibilities. I search for explorations of sensation, challenging the ways in which my brain communicates with my body, my body with the space surrounding me, and the other bodies that inhabit it. I find dance to be a process that is initiated internally and is transformed and transmitted externally. I crave the intrinsic intimacy that dancing creates between the body and the mind. I am open when I move; ready to relay and receive the exchanges of energy between myself and the bodies I have the privilege of sharing space with.
